The GLAMers for civic participation – Multiplier event in Rome

The GLAMers project offered a solution to the issues that emerged during the pandemic concerning the delays of GLAMs (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) in digital transformation. In fact, many of these cultural institutions were affected by the pandemic and the subsequent closure of physical locations. The project aims to strengthen youth involvement in the GLAM activities by offering a model for an action plan, activities and useful resources.

At an event held on February 25, 2023 at the Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove Metropoliz_ mestizo city (MAAM) in Rome, the tools developed by the GLAMers project to strengthen youth involvement in GLAM activities were presented to a group of more than 30 people, including teachers and cultural professionals. In addition, issues related to the digitization of cultural heritage were addressed, that are particularly important for the MAAM, which houses works of art such as murals and street art, that are often susceptible to rapid deterioration and risk of ultimate disappearance.

After an initial presentation, the group walked through the corridors of the old factory. The MAAM is indeed a unique museum: it was conceived as a place where art saves space and spaces save art. The museum hosts works by contemporary artists and promotes art as a means of social inclusion and enhancing the cultural heritage of local communities.
